Technical training and skills development

Sixty local contractors and 200 other contractors in the district were trained by the Eden District Municipality in business finance and administration, business planning, labour intensive construction theory, tendering and building regulations. And those who were contacted to do construction for the the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme did so under the condition that they would train and employ youths in the community. Local Frans Claasen’s company, Bright Idea Projects, received R1.57 million for work to be done at St Conrad’s Primary School. During the project, 30 unskilled and unemployed young people received on-the-job training and received a stipend of R110 a day. These “students” later formed their own company and now do small projects in the community.
