Redefine gets going on law firm’s R895m headquarters

A new R895 million head office for law firm Webber Wentzel is to be developed in Sandton by listed property company Redefine. The award to Redefine of the contract for the development of the building followed an intense tender and selection process by the law company, which received 27 submissions by sector heavyweights including Redefine, Growthpoint, Zenprop, Intaprop and others. The new head office is to be developed at 90 Rivonia Road opposite Sandton City and close to the Sandton Station of the Gautrain. The existing building, which was previously let to Alexander Forbes, will be demolished. The process has already commenced.

Redefine Properties head of development Mike Ruttell said the developer was pleased to have won the tender, especially considering the extent of the competition for the contract. Ruttell said the project continued Redefine’s strategy of investing in high-grade properties with blue chip tenants. The new 90 Rivonia Road building will comprise 34 500m2 of space in two wings. One wing of 26 000m2 will be occupied by Webber Wentzel Attorneys while the other will be developed for its future expansion. The property is expected to be valued at about R1.1 billion once the redevelopment has been completed. It will have seven levels of parking with three different entrances and exits off Rivonia Road and Katherine Street, with the ground floor as well as seven levels of offices constructed on top of the parking.

Ruttell said Webber Wentzel would occupy its new headquarters from next year. “This property will provide many unique advantages for business and its redevelopment will see it elevated to become one of Sandton’s most recognised and sought-after business addresses,” he said.
