MEC Tate Makgoe sat on board with Ramaphosa when school tender was awarded to Shanduka

Following an investigation into President Cyril Ramaphosa's alleged dubious Shanduka tender with the Free State Department of Education, The Star has now learnt that the tender was never advertised.

Further, Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe was also a member of the Shanduka Trust board at the time, while Ramaphosa served as the chairperson. The Star has seen an affidavit from an official of the Free State Department of Education which says that there may have been discrepancies in the awarding of the tender.

It is alleged that the MEC broke the rules in giving Shanduka the tender. The Public Works Department has confirmed to The Star that some important documents relating to the schools construction are missing.

The Star reported on Wednesday that Reserve Bank shareholder Fanie Fondse had laid criminal charges against Ramaphosa at the Sandton Police Station for corruption related to Shanduka’s tender bid to build schools in the Free State.

A case of racketeering, money laundering and treason was also opened against Ramaphosa, accusing him of colluding with apartheid leaders in looting money from the South African government. Fondse was appointed by the government in 2012 to investigate apartheid-era economic crimes.

This is a developing story.
